Celebration of the Feast of Mother of God and New Year's Eve in Medjugorje gathered many pilgrims and parishioners to come here and groups arrived from Italy, Hungary, Korea, Spain, Slovakia, the United States, Czech Republic, China, Lebanon, France, Poland, Austria and Germany. Many pilgrims came to Medjugorje from all over the world in these days, especially the youth. They all came so they would celebrate New Year's Eve in prayer. Three buses arrived from Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. Kamila Mišikova, teacher , was in that group.

On Thursday, December 29, after evening prayer programme, very unusual, but special book was presented in the Hall of John Paul II in Medjugorje. The author of the book is professor of art, Mr. Hubert Theler from Switzerland. The book “Living Stones from Medjugorje” was already presented in Switzerland and many got interested in Medjugorje through that. (photos)

Many pilgrims are expected to come to Medjugorje, especially the youth, from all over the world on this New Year’s Eve. The prayer programme will begin at 5 pm with Rosary. Thanksgiving Holy Mass will be at 6 pm, and Cenacolo community will give another live Nativity scene performance after Holy Mass in front of the church of St. James.

Also this year, Christmas was celebrated in joy, after faithful in the parish prepared for the birth of Jesus with early Holy Masses and Novena on Apparition Hill. This place of prayer and reconciliation, recognised as such by numerous pilgrims from all over the world, was once again the confessional of the whole world. (photos)

At the last daily apparition to Jakov Colo on September 12th, 1998, Our Lady told him that henceforth he would have one apparition a year, every December 25th, on Christmas Day. This is also how it was this year. The apparition began at 2:20 pm and lasted 10 minutes. Afterwards Jakov transmitted the message:

On Saturday, December 24, we will celebrate Christmas Eve. Fasting is recommended on this day. On that morning we will celebrate last early Holy Mass at 6 am in the church of St. James. Rosary will not take place in the afternoon on Apparition Hill, and there will not be Holy Mass at 1 pm. The evening prayer programme begins with Rosary at 5 pm and Christmas Vigil Holy Mass will be at 6 pm.

On Thursday, December 15, 2016, we begin with nine days preparation for the Birth of Christ. In those nine days, every day until Christmas Eve (but not on Christmas Eve), we will be climbing Apparition Hill at 2 pm, and so on December 16&23, both Fridays, we will not pray the Way of the Cross on Krizevac. The evening prayer programme in Medjugorje church will be held according to the ordinary schedule.

Bistrik, Sarajevo, came to Medjugorje on a pilgrimage. Their journey On Saturday, December 3, in the first week of Advent, students and youth from began early on Saturday morning, outside the church of St. Anthony. The group was made of the youth that participates in their meetings every Tuesday in their parish, but of all others who wanted to participate.

The third National Spiritual Renewal of YouFra Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Medjugorje from December 2-4, 2016, with the famous line of St. Mother Theresa as the theme of the gathering “Peace begins with the smile”. The reason for this renewal was preparation for the most joyful Christian feast – Christmas.

Preparation for Christmas in Medjugorje parish is taking place in this time intensively. Along with the spiritual preparation in the prayer, as well as early Holy Masses, encounters of parishioners that take place on Sunday evening, there is also construction site of Bethlehem that is being built outside church of St. James. The members of Cenacolo community are preparing the scene for the live Nativity performance that will be held during the Christmas time.

After the evening prayer programme on Wednesday, November 30, a novel of Croatian writer Miro Gavran “ A couple of birds and one sky”, was presented in the Hall of John Paul II in Medjugorje.
